Compare the cost of green roofing with conventional roofing systems!I nterested in green roofing but not sure how to determine its long-term costs and benefits, especially compared to traditional roofs? Stop wondering. Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) with support from Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance and the Athena Institute, are proud to bring you the GreenSave Calculator, specifically designed to help professionals concerned with sustainability. The GreenSave Calculator was developed by GRHC and the Athena Institute with funding by Tremco.Cost Compare Different Roofing Over Time! The GreenSave Calculator lets you compare roofing alternatives over a specific time period to determine which has the lowest life-cycle cost. It is excellent for determining whether higher initial costs are justified by reducing such future costs as operating, maintenance, repair or replacement costs and/or producing additional benefits, such as energy savings. You can also see whether some roofs have lower initial costs but cost more over time.
The GreenSave Calculator is available exclusively to GRHC Individual and Corporate Members. To become a member of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities click here.
Green Roof Energy Calculator (version 2.0)The Green Roof Energy Calculator is an online tool that complements the GreenSave Calculator by allowing users to compare the annual energy performance of a building with a vegetative green roof to the same building with either a dark roof or a white roof. At present, simulations are available for new construction (ASHRAE 90.1-2004) and old construction (pre-ASHRAE 90.1-2004) office and residential buildings driven by typical precipitation and weather data. Representation of an irrigation schedule is optional. The Green Roof Energy Calculator was developed through a collaboration involving researchers and staff at Portland State University, University of Toronto, and Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, and launched in 2011. The effort was funded by the US Green Building Council with additional financial and in-kind support from University of Toronto, Portland State University, GRHC, and Environment Canada.
