There are many reasons to like the Secalflor green roof system:

One is it's simplicity : it's modular structure based on 2 panels, 1/2 sq m each, on top of each other, and requiring only a 2" soil cover, means an ease of application that is attainable by any normal person, and resulting in cost savings in handling/ specialized labor/equipment costs, whether we're talking about a hospital roof, or a carport.

Another is it's light weight : At 35kg/sq m when wet, it's amongst the lightest extensive green roof systems anywhere, meaning no structural re-enforcement required to existing roofs. The light, dry weight of each panel - 1 kg/2.5 lbs - means ease of handling and application.

Perhaps the best reason to think Secalflor, is the high water retention capacity of the Secalflor green roof system - 30 litres/sq m - which means that the plant cover has a water supply in between rainfalls, thus becoming self-sustaining for almost all climates. The same water-retention capabilities also result in a hard roof fire rated designation, meaning lower insurance premiums. Finally, it's all natural! There are no re-cycled, man-made materials used : each Secalflor growing panel, the key component of the system, is made from natural grain fibres, and is 100% bio-degradable.[more...]

Re-New Canada
ReNew Canada was created by Todd Latham and Ray Blumenfeld, principals of We Communications, to address the infrastructure information needs of municipal, provincial, corporate and professional industries who rethink, restore, rebuild, revitalize and renew communities across Canada.   Our infrastructure has or is reaching life cycle and capacity limits; every day we increase the gap between what we need, what we got and how much it will cost to build or repair it.  To the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, and counting.

ReNew Canada introduces government and business leaders with sources of financing, expertise and service of supplier partners so combined, they can play a significant role in bridging this gap and making sustainable urban growth happen.

ReNew Canada is a magazine for the dreamers and visionaries who want to effect change and address the massive infrastructure deficit challenge in this country.
